TV Review: Bored to Death - "The Black Clock of Time"

Season 3 - Episode 3
HBO (US)

Bored to Death was utterly fantastic this week. I could leave the review at that, because not much more needs to be said. With his murder charge now only a memory, Jonathan sets out to find his biological father while promoting his new book. Putting it like that tells absolutely nothing of the sheer quality and comedy of this episode.

While preparing for an appearance on the American institution that is "The Dick Cavett Show", Jonathan runs into his nemesis Louis Green, who intends to humiliate and overshadow him on live TV. After talking about his search for his father, Cavett decides to cancel Louis' appearance and extend Jonathan's, which leads to Louis losing his mind, Jonathan saving Cavett's life and the sales for Jonathan's new book predicted to go through the roof.

Meanwhile, Ray has his son at the park, and after a mixup ends up taking home the wrong baby. With the baby asleep, Ray fails to notice, and finds himself getting arrested after the women in the park find his cartoons online, unfortunately mainly penis related. It all works out in the end, but is Ray's relationship with his son over? I'm sure we'll find out. Elsewhere George attempts to come to terms with his daughter's engagement to a man his own age, and manages to get involved in both Ray's and Jonathan's stories.

The only problem with this episode of Bored to Death is that there are still five more in the season, and it seems unlikely that they'll be able to live up to this one. Absolutely brilliant.
